...because I was roaming around ebay last night before I went to sleep and found someone selling new fountain pens for teh cheep. I watched one item, figuring that I would bid on it in the morning but I didn't actually turn on my computer until a half hour after the auction ended.

Eh, cheap fountain pen, I thought. why not?

so Paid just under eleven bucks for this:

and that's including shipping. I could get a bum pen but if it's excellent I will be giggling and buying more.

I went to the only thai restaurant in calgary that doesn't close in the afternoon. I had myself a lovely glass of unwooded australian chardonnay, a bowl of Tom Kha Gai (that's coconut milk and chicken soup) and some green vegetable curry.

The Tom Kha Gai was fabulous. It reminded me of Toronto, since that's where I had this soup first. Though The King and I's version was a little more ornate - it had lime leaves, slivered bamboo shoots, asparagus, a hardboiled quail egg, beautiful little red chilies (hot little buggers, those are) and slices of fresh galangal in it. Just yum. must go to asian market and grab some stuff - I know if I make this at home wolf will go completely ape over it.

The green vegetable curry was SO HOT. oh man I needed that. it burned down my throat, in my ears (ha! take that, goo!) and it had the kind of tofu I like best, the stuff that is textured like a beautifully fluffy omelette. the cucumber salad was handy for cooling off - the chardonnay didn't quite stand up to that heat and I should have had the Riesling instead, but really I should have had the chardonnay with the soup and the Riesling with the curry but I wasn't going that high on the hog.

Queen, who served me my food, noticed that I was sick and so she packed up the bit of green curry and rice I had left to take home. "Hot food is good for you," she said. I notice the container she gave me is a wee bit bigger than what would have fit what I left.

In calgary, Thai is a sit down fancy dinner affair. There's only about half a dozen thai restaurants in the whole city. I think the best food is to be had at Ruan Thai, but the King and I isn't really far behind. It's a beautiful restaurant and they have dramatically expanded their wine selections. It's a bit of a trip from the Hyatt Regency, but probably worth a visit when you're here in 2008. The Rose Garden is closer, and it's not bad, and there's one more place downtown that's reservations only, but I've never been there.

Much thicker on the ground: Vietnamese and Indian Restaurants. I'm totally spoiled for Korma.

as you can probably tell, I'm feeling much better. I noticed that I could breathe through my nose last night - this morning when I woke up I could still breathe through my nose. It vanished just like that. stupid goo invasion.
