I am one of those weirdoes.
Mar. 3rd, 2007 10:58 amas soon as I got my last t4 in the mail I was filing my taxes online.
I am getting a fairly sizeable refund - since I spent half of last year unemployed and the other half taxed like I had a full year's worth of income.
so I sat back and thought, "what am I going to do with all that money?"
smart people would roll it into an RRSP or something. but fuck THAT.
I'm buying a computer.
I am in desperate need of a computer. the computer i am using right now, I bought in like 2001. it has 128 megs of ram. it is cute. but way slow. and it takes so much space in my room, it angers me.
so - laptop. though I feel trepidations at having only a laptop at my disposal. but really, only having a desktop is not at all practical for the likes of me.
so, shop with me, folks!
first off - unless you can come up with a compelling reason otherwise, I am buying my computer at Memory Express. don't even talk to me about Dell, HP, or apple. I am so not going there. I bought *this* computer by building it from the motherboard up. I did not buy any sort of warranty - as a matter of fact, since I *insisted* on having it delivered to me with absolutely no software installed, I had to agree to buy it without warranty.
I had a hard drive go (it was a maxtor.) Ram I added after the fact went corrupt. This computer is chugging along, folks. I've had to buy two keyboards, but so what?
I pheer laptops because if something goes wrong, I may not be able to do the hardware replacement myself. so I am going to buy the instant product replacement warranty for one year, and ask the guys what all in the way of hardware I can replace myself. they'll probably tell me that I can do a lot more than I think.
I am also buying Kapersky anti-virus on the spot. you there. do you have mad russian computer scientists protecting your computer? it's on the front page there. Memory express takes credit cards. runs, don't walk. do you have norton or mcaffee? you poor bastards. go, get kapersky.
I am also running AMD chipset. I'm sure the intel chipset is all very nice. I prefer AMD, but I won't bitch if it's intel.
in canadian dollars, I'm spending about $1200. I want lotsa ram, fast processor, and a real video card.
Am I demanding too much?
no wait! I want THIS ONE!
