I don't know if I talked about this before.

the shopping list I posted the other day has a lot of items crossed off it because of The Walk-In Closet.

The Walk-In Closet is the public face of a nonprofit group who aim to help women look for a better job than they might by doing something simple - give them gently used clothes appropriate for business attire.

I don't have to tell most of you how expensive a business wardrobe can be. It's expensive enough that it's often cheaper to take a "uniform job" - which pays less. If you get a referral to this service you get to go twice in a year, and you come out laden with clothes.

I just finished my second visit, and I made out like a BANDIT. linen pants. linen blouses. silk pants. silk blouses. Leather shoes. scarves. even some more fall/winter items that I couldn't pass up. currently I'm wearing a sporty looking blue plaid skirt with a sleeveless orange silk top. I have more than a week's worth of business attire, and it's basically made my summer work wardrobe go from meager to nearly complete.

The first time I went, I went timidly through the racks, making hard decisions about what I saw there. I expected I could pick out one pair of pants, a skirt, a couple of blouses, maybe ask for a winter coat. so that's what I took to the dressing room.

But while I was there I had my own assistant, who knocked on the door and said, "Come out and model!" so I came out in what I was wearing. She first looked at me, and asked for a size range, and then looked to see what I'd picked out, and sort of sigh/laughed.

"Oh love," She said. "That will never do."

and she went away, came back, and started PILING clothes on me. Try this. try this. I saw you looking at this jacket, try it on. I bet you would look sharp in this. try this suit! It's Jones New York. Or maybe this Ralph Lauren one.

The first time, I walked out with tons of stuff for winter. This time, I didn't really hold back but I did pass on anything that was a bit too big so that the person it actually fit got this nice thing (Leanne found this delicious brown silk summer suit - way too dressy for the dress code, but so wow. SILK! but it was too big so I let it go.)

This is such a good service I can't even tell you how good it made me feel yesterday.

As a result, I don't have to drain my early pay in order to outfit myself appropriately for my...

NEW JOB!

yeah, many of you probably suspected something was up but now that I've had two training sessions I can announce it -

I'm working for Star Choice television. I'm hired as a TSR, so I'm going to be in training for nearly the first three months of my job. Yesterday was the second day of training, and my trainer stopped me just before my lunch break to tell me quite seriously that I have a great attitude and he's sure that it's raising the morale of my group - that we're involved, enthusiastic, and asking questions. I was SO CHUFFED that I was running around the office practically yelling EEEEEEEEE! and was so excited that I needed to brag on it, so I called up [livejournal.com profile] sledene just so I could gas on to someone who'd understand it, except I got his voice mail. I had to do something or I would have swung on a vine through the atrium yelling like Tarzan...

That's the power of positive feedback, right there.
